New Delhi, India:  November 12, 2009 - IR Summary  -  The majority of political think tank all over the world and particularly in the US Administration is guessing whether President Obama's really threatened Mr. Karzai that if he does not comply with his promises to cooperate with America, there shall be no other option for him but to pull back the American forces from Afghanistan. In other words, does it mean that US have little or no influence over Afghanistan and its leaders?

It is a political puzzle, can't be decided so abruptly, Obama is wise enough to tackle the issue, even though the opinions among his officials at times do create confusion in his mind. When Obama thinks finally, he decides wisely like a great statesman, of course he takes his own time.

One thing is clear that US can't pull out of Afghanistan so easily, nor Obama wishes to commit such an error even in his dream. America is making Pakistan to fight for them against Taliban and Karzai knows it well that it is not possible for America to back out from its earlier promise and Karzai's attitude towards Obama has, therefore, become somewhat different in his action plan.

It is advisable for President Obama not to decide this issue in a hurry, Afghanistan is a vital region which America can't ignore fighting with Taliban through Pakistan and it is a triangle which should remain united if the desired target is to be achieved by the United States. Obama should create a striking balance between from Afghanistan and Pakistan to achieve the desirable goal.

The most important worry seems to be that these were only Afghan corrupt officials who encouraged illegal drug trade in Afghanistan openly and fearlessly with full force, and created an uncontrollable resurgence of the Taliban, and Karzai is fully conscious of it that unless he tackles this vital issue with full heart and soul and with bursting force, US can't succeed in their mission to defeat the Taliban insurgents through Pakistan.

Though  Mr. Karzai has said that he would crack down on the corruption of the officials, who are promoting the drug trade illegally, it is not an easy affair for Mr. Obama to believe him but at the same time, he has no other choice but to trust him (Karzai).

I am of the view that President Obama should exercise restrain and apply his mind not to lose Karzai at any cost; he is the right lever which Obama can use wisely and tactfully and that's also important from the view point of international pressure.
It is advisable for Obama to send additional troops based on the advice of his experts, rather than to create any misunderstanding with Mr. Karzai, who is a very important partner at this time.
