New Delhi, India : July 4, 2008 – IR Summary/TNN – Sonia Gandhi and PM are anxious to welcome Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh today. They are meeting the Congress Chief and PM to finalize their stand for the Congress.
Former President and renowned scientist A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, has removed all doubts of Samajwadi Party’s leaders Mr. Mulayam Singh Tadav and Amar Singh.
Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh both have raised his image by coming forward to lend their support to Congress; in fact they have become the savior of Congress. In fact, the meeting is formal, the SP leaders have already made up their mind to support Congress on Nuclear issue plus other issues in future as and when arise. This will coincide with a Left Front meeting during the day to work out the "modalities" of withdrawal of support after the government announces its decision to take the next step on the deal
In a shrewd move scripted by Amar Singh, who had a telephonic conversation with Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi, the SP brass approached Kalam after a meeting of UNPA brought out the conflict of opinion within the grouping.
Emerging from the meeting with Abdul Kalam, SP leader Amar Singh said the former president had strongly backed the deal.
"The deal is beneficial for the country and they should keep national interest above politics while firming up the stand on the issue", the SP general secretary quoted Kalam as telling the SP delegation which also included the party's leader in Lok Sabha, Ram Gopal Yadav.
Any doubts that remained about the SP's stand were dispelled as Amar Singh categorically told reporters, "Communalism is the biggest threat, bigger than even the N-deal. I said it yesterday and I am repeating it now."
