Washington/New Delhi, June 26, 2008 –Senior US Congressman Gary Ackerman, who is due to visit New Delhi in July, is confident that the Indo-US Nuclear Deal would get through as scheduled despite differences between the Indian Government led by Congress Government and the Left party, its main allied group.

He wants that the Indian Govt. should complete its internal formalities on the historic nuclear deal so as to enable American Congress to approve the accord.

He said, "I strongly support the 123 agreement and I look forward to the Government of India completing its internal processes so that the US Congress could give final approval to this historic deal."

Gary Ackerman is on the right track of thinking; he has rightly weighed the quantum of relationship between America and India, which is growing day by day and the base created by President Bush should continue further to strengthen bilateral relations for mutual benefits between the two democracies, and the Indo-US Nuclear Deal can play a vital role.

However, he said "there was much more to the July 2005 joint statement (between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President George W Bush) than civil nuclear cooperation and there is much more to US-India relations than just the 123 agreement."

"In fact the 2005 statement covered a broad range of issues among which civil nuclear cooperation was just one," Democratic Congressman Ackerman said at a hearing titled 'More Than Just The 123 Agreement: The Future of US-Indo Relations.'
Ackerman has also other issues of mutual interests in his agenda for which the Indian govt. is eager to discuss to broaden the bilateral relations between India and America.

Coming to Manmohan Singh, he has always been considered a weak Prime Minister but the opinion has proved wrong. He has shown his guts to make the nuclear deal as success story of his life and Sonia’s part is equally important and both of them should go ahead with the project.

Mr. Manmohan Singh should sign the safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by ignoring the risks of losing his government because of the absence of majority support in Parliament.

Country’s prestige is above everything, if his ally, particularly Left Party has decided to destroy the integrity of the nation, he need not say sorry to President Bush, but go ahead, sign it even if the govt. falls.

Mr. Manmohan Singh should remember that his govt. would not fall for following reasons:

The allies other than Left simply want to save the govt., they don’t want to go for polls, and they shall not create any hurdle in his way; it is Indian politics, what they say in a threatening tone to him or Sonia Ji, is not a serious hazard, the UPA Govt. can cross over and create a history.

Mulayam Singh, who is supposed to be equally closer to the Left Party, has no other option but to join the Congress at this junction to save the govt. Remove this apprehension that he would join the Left, he also doesn’t want the govt. to fall. He is sure that if the govt. falls at this stage, he shall not be able to get even 50% seats in the centre.

It is a confirmed report that he would not like to sacrifice his interest for the sake of Left even though the divergent statements of Amar Singh are coming forward. Amar Singh is also a mature politician, he will ultimately love to join Sonia ji to save her govt.
