London: 1 February 2010- IR Summary/TOI -
The world around him has totally changed, but he hasn’t let go of his self-respect. As different news channels attribute different reasons for his broken engagement with tennis star Sania Mirza, Sohrab Mirza, who’s currently doing his MBA in the UK, opens up about the break-up in an exclusive chat with TOI
Sohrab says, “Differences between us cropped up right from the word go. After the engagement, we realized we were completely incompatible although we had known each other for around six years and our families have been friends for three generations.”
On news stating that Sania broke off the engagement, he says, “It was a mutual decision to get engaged and we mutually decided to part ways even though it hurts. But, you have to move on.”
Sohrab remains unfazed in the face of reports claiming that ‘he couldn’t adjust to Sania’s celebrity status. He says “She was a celebrity for the world, but for me she was a simple girl. She has worked so hard to achieve what she has and I’m proud of her achievements. But, I also run a decent business, so there was no competition between us,” What about the news of her so-called link-ups with Shahid Kapur and Mahesh Bhupathi? “I don’t believe in rumor. And I wouldn’t have anybody casting aspersions on a lady’s reputation,” he says firmly.
He only wishes Sania well, but what is that one quality that he will now seek in his future wife? There’s a catch in his voice as he says, “I’m not even ready to think about such things. Whatever has to happen, will happen!”
