MIL/Agencies, Jan 6, 2010

New Delhi, India: January 6, 2010 – IR Summary/Agencies-

Amar Singh, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, resigned on Wednesday as General Secretary of the party, due to some deep differences cropped up in the party.

Even though differences between Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh are the likely reasons of his resignation, Mr. Amar Singh said he had no differences with SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and would never speak "a word" against him.

Without indicating the basic reason of his differences within the party boss, that led to his resignation, he said that he had resigned on health and not on political grounds.

Mr. Amar Singh told reporters that he wanted to devote time to his family, which part was neglected due to his busy life in politics.

"I have resigned on health grounds. I have to devote more time towards my responsibilities to my family. Mr. Amar Singh, who has undergone a kidney transplant in Singapore, is reported to be returned from Dubai on Friday.

Mr. Amar Singh repeated said:

"I am grateful to Mulayam Singh for the opportunities given in my life I will not speak a word against him."

Mr. Amar Singh is not only a popular political leader but enjoys equal reputation among the film stars in Bollywood.
