Zardari ignores Condoleezza’s message, Refuses to handover terrorists to India

MIL, Dec 3, 2008

New Delhi, India: December 3, 2008 – Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist, Chairman, National Integration Assembly (NIA) - As per interview of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari given to CNN, he has hurt the world by  dashing all hopes of cooperation with India concerning Mumbai’s terrorist attack; he bluntly avoided the issue of urgency on the part of Islamabad’s cooperation with India raised by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, in her message as well as to the reporters.

The main question about Condoleezza is whether her trip has gone fall flat? Does she carry no authority or influence which she can exert over Pakistan now, particularly when Barak Obama is to take oath as new President.

Condoleezza was to go to Pakistan to impress Zardari to cooperate with India whole heartedly and to advise him to come out with a clean mind but before she could reach Islamabad and talk to him, Zardari has made the things clear that he has no respect either for India or United States.

Zardari most probably feels that the message of Secretary of the State, Condoleezza Rice presently has little value for him, since she is going out of her job and carries no authority to dictate her terms to Pakistan any more. Zardardi treats Rice as a spent force like the dipping Sun, who has practically no right to suggest what Islamabad is to do or how to act in respect of Mumbai’s terrorist attack, or in any other issue except that he would just do it as a formality.

To settle the issue and to reject her message, Zardari has given his mind in the media that if concrete evidence is supplied to their satisfaction, then only Pakistan would consider to try those alleged terrorists and that too in their court and would not hand over any of them to India, in any circumstances what come may.

Zardari’s comments on Tuesday suggested that Pakistan would prosecute the suspects instead of handing them over to India, despite demands from New Delhi.

"If we had the proof, we would try them in our courts and we would try them in our land and we would sentence them," Zardari told CNN's "Larry King Live" when asked if he would turn over the suspects.

Zardari has rejected the plea that 10 militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba are either training in Pakistan or equipped to launch an attack on Mumbai.

In the interview, Zardari has totally denied his country’s involvement in Mumbai attacks, saying the gunmen did not act on behalf of any state.

"I think these are stateless actors who have been operating throughout the region. The gunmen, whoever they are, are all stateless actors who are holding hostage the whole world," he said.

"The state of Pakistan is no way responsible," the Pakistani leader said. But Zardari said that he doubted Indian claims that the sole surviving gunman, who was captured by Indian security forces during the 60-hour siege of the city, was a Pakistani.

Zardari has also in mind the statement of Republican Senator John McCain, who said , “We do not have hard evidence yet. Obviously, there are allegations that this organization, this individual or this group was trained or operated or had some training in Pakistan.”

Even though McCain is also a spent force for Zardari, he was happy to take advantage of his tone in which he spoke in favor of Pakistan.

Zardari has other reasons in his mind that Pakistan is a nuclear country and it is not easy for India to attack Pakistan and if they commit this mistake, it shall cost them heavily, which they can never thought of.

Moreover, Indians elections are fast approaching and under these circumstances, Mr. Manmohan Singh can’t take any hard step against Pakistan, since it is very doubtful whether he shall come up victorious in the next elections and lead the country.

Zardari looks to have been misguided by some of his cronies, he is committing a blunder by denying cooperation with India and on the contrary dictating terms to India to produce concrete proof and if satisfied, then only also, Islamabad may consider trying them in their own court and would not hand over them to India in any circumstances. It does not speak mature statement and its results may not prove favorable to Pakistan, even though Pakistani people have all the sympathies with the victims of Mumbai attack as gathered from different sources in Pakistan and they hate such like attacks, which are against the true spirit of Islam.
