New Delhi, India: November 18, 2008 , IR Summary/Agencies – Some of our leaders are ignorant of the consequences of their type of politics how they dangerously affect the high values of the country and its constitution. Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishanan has said today that destructive politics on divisive issues is the biggest threat to the Constitution of the country.
 
While addressing a conference on National Value Crisis and Redressal, he said, "Aggressive brand of politics is threatening our constitution, and the principles that our constitution stands for. There has been several instances of senseless violence in recent times to polarize the nation on the flimsiest of reasons." 

In a pluralistic society, there is bound to be differences, but with maturity of democracy these differences should be resolved amicably, Balakrishnan said.

Turning to the issue of judiciary, he said it "is a watchdog of society".

"There have been allegations against higher judiciary in recent days. It has raised question on who would watch the watchdog," he said adding, "our national values are deeply eroding at this time".
