Aarushi case: Accused's kin bear the brunt

MIL/NDTV.com, Sep 10, 2008

New Delhi: September 10, 2008 - With the CBI unable to gather tangible evidence against the three accused in the Arushi-Hemraj murder case, the filing of the first charge sheet seems to be uncertain.

Just last week, one of the accused, Vijay Mandol, got bail. And now, with the CBI getting no evidence against them, the families of the two other accussed, Krishna and Rajkumar, hope to see them walking out free.

But with the financial hardships, family has gone through arranging for the bail amount may be difficult.

As the freedom comes at a cost, the burden has multiplied, since all three were the main breadwinners for their families.

"I am innocent. CBI framed me," Vijay Mondol has said after his arrest.

Vijay Mandal's relief at walking out of jail was clouded by his family's struggle to get him out.

Vijay's brother Jairam spent more than a month fighting for his release and two anxious days after he was granted bail, trying to raise 50000 rupees for his bail bonds.

"It was a difficult time for me and my family. I convinced my two relatives to pay for bail. I am thankful that they agreed. I am grateful to God," said Jairam Mondol.

Now the families of Krishna and Rajkumar are also hoping to have them back. But they don't know how they'll arrange money for his bail.

"Wat happened has happened. We have faced a lot. I really don't want to think about the loss family has suffered. We now just want Krishna to be back home as soon as possible," said Sunita, Krishna's niece.

Whether evidence will be found against Krishna and Rajkumar is not known. They could be out of jail soon, but for their families, the damage is already done.
