NSG asked for Special grounds for waiver in Sep. Meet

MIL/, Aug 23, 2008

Washington: August 23, 2008 – Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist – The NSG meet has not been over with a negative note on Friday ; certain country members virtually wanted to know the special grounds warranting India to grant waiver to justify their okay. The balance of convenience has throughout been in favor of India.

The countries who wanted to know the grounds why this exceptional treatment be meted out to India are not at all against India, they just want to be clear while saying okay for the Indo-US Nuke deal since their unanimous clearance has a bearing on future of the NSG.

Now it is the duty of India as well as United States to explain the special circumstances and the grounds warranting special, exceptional and justified logic that privilege India to be cleared by the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), which aspect they unfortunately slipped while pleading the case.

The country members who have reservations do not wish to put India and America in an awkward or embarrassing position in any case, they just asked for a clarification to justify their positive vote.

These countries are simply to be briefed about the deal very specifically in the next meet to be held in the first week of September to the effect that it is not only a civilian nuclear initiative but also it has several other important grounds attached to it which justify special privilege to be granted to India in the interest of peace in the sub continent.

India, in fact, is surrounded by different happenings including the acts of terrorism apart from hidden danger to its sovereignty from its neighboring country, which obviously is Pakistan.

Pakistan’s official secret agency is causing to escalate violence in Jammu & Kashmir through its terrorist groups and especially when President Musharraf is now not a part of Pakistan, they have allowed terrorists to re-open their training centers in Pakistan to spread terrorism in India through Kashmir region and LOC..

So much so, even the Nuclear establishments in Pakistan are not considered safe. Hence it is necessary for NSG to allow India to have Nuclear experiment in future in case of emergency, even though India has banned the nuclear experiments voluntarily and this justification should be highlighted in the first week of September when the 45 nations meet, since it is one of the major grounds for waiver.
 .
It is important and urgent for Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon to visit the US early next week to hold discussions with Americans officials in the wake of 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) deciding to meet next month to consider a waiver for India to carry out nuclear commerce.

Mr. Menon, who is likely to be in US on Monday, may like to discuss current developments in Pakistan following President Pervez Musharraf’s resignation as also the escalating violence in Kashmir during his meeting with Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns.
