Delhi hit by Badhh call by BJP over Amarnath Issue
MIL/Agencies, Jul 3, 2008. IR Summary
New Delhi, India, July 3, 2008 - IR Summary/Agencies – The BJP called for a countrywide Bandh on Thursday over the Amarnath land transfer issue. So far capital is concerned, the roads were blocked and shops and business establishments remained closed in most of its parts today.
In some parts, the BJP workers were seen trying to force the traders to close their shops and Lakshmi Nagar and Karol Bagh were the areas which were partly closed and later on there was a complete blockade.
The DND flyway in Noida, Vikas Marg in East Delhi, Lakshmi Nagar and Karol Bagh were some of the major arterial roads which were blocked. Buses were diverted from the busy areas of East Delhi following the blockage. Delhi police, however, said adequate security arrangements have been made in view of the strike call and a strict vigil was being maintained. The bandh was more or less peaceful, no untoward incident reported.
It is really unfortunate the way the Muslim community in Kashmir hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus.
